Hopeton Overton Brown — aka The Scientist Dubmaster himself — is one of reggae and dub’s most innovative pioneers, a hero to recording engineers, mixers, and producers around the world. He learned his trade in the iconic Kingston, Jamaica studio of King Tubby in the late 1970s and 1980s, and transformed the art of mixing, turning the console into a living instrument. A wizard of echo, reverb, and deep deep basslines, he’s also memorable for his album titles — Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires, Scientist Wins The World Cup, Heavyweight Dub Champion — and his remixes of artists as varied as Interpol and Khruangbin.
