On the summer and winter solstices and the spring and autumn equinoxes in 2024, XL Recordings boss, DJ, and producer Richard Russell gathered together a ragtag bunch of musicians and collaborators to record Solstice Equinox, his fourth album as the Mercury-nominated project Everything Is Recorded. It features local XL talent such as Sampha, as well as Florence Welch, Alabaster DePlume, Georgia, Mary In The Junkyard, and many others. His playful, prolific approach tends to result in meditations on life and permeance, via trip-hop, soul, and rap — for the Solstice Equinox sessions, his only instructions were words about the seasons written on the studio walls.
