Cate Le Bon is the kind of artist who’ll take a year off music to study carpentry, “to make sure she was making music out of heart, not habit”. The kind of artist who, since 2008, has lent offbeat colour to the alternative rock and pop canon. The Welsh musician is a Green Man regular — she’s recently even produced some faces on this year’s lineup (Wilco, Dry Cleaning, Horsegirl…) — and returned to Cardiff after a decade in California. Her seventh album Michelangelo Dying, which came out last year, is the product of that “all-consuming heartache”: a product of “heartache railing against its own impermanence”.
