Why should we see species in the same way we see art, antiques, literature, music? They are our original heritage, and we are losing them fast or have lost them already. To stop that loss, we need to conserve them and to repair that loss we need to repatriate them. Yet returning species to our landscapes and our lives isn’t as easy as it sounds.
Robbie Blackhall-Miles is a British conservationist, plant expert, and advocate for endangered and rare plant species. He grows and conserves some of the world’s most threatened plant species. His work emphasizes the preservation of biodiversity, particularly of those less high profile species that are often overlooked but are crucial to ecosystems.
Robbie is known for his extensive knowledge of ecology and his hands-on approach to conservation. His focus includes species that have ancient evolutionary origins, sometimes referred to as “living fossils.” He is Vascular Plants officer for Wales’ largest species recovery programme, ‘Natur am Byth!’ where he leads a project to change the fortunes of 12 of Eryri’s rarest Alpine plant and invertebrate species.
He’s also active in sharing his passion through teaching, social media, public speaking, writing, and his podcast where he and his guests discuss the space that the LGBTQ+ community holds in nature.
