After thirty-five years and a song for every emotion imaginable, Yo La Tengo still flirt with new sounds. The cult darlings, formed in New Jersey in 1984 by Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley, dwell happily on the peripheries of many a genre. Their career has spawned fifteen albums (and fifteen bass players), a record bin of eclectic delights that includes cover tracks and film scores. The band’s endless curiosity and obsession with music is reflected in their mountainous back catalogue, which pivots constantly from punk to shoegaze to electronica to wordless balladry. We love music that sends us in unexpected directions: we know Yo La Tengo will do just that on our stage this summer.
