Villagers, formed in Dublin in 2008 by Conor O’Brien, master everything from deep-reaching confessionals to the immediate joy of gospel. O’Brien described songs as ‘little pieces of dreams’. If he’s right, then last September’s release The Art of Pretending to Swim is an album-long textural reverie: songs of faith and addiction that are dark yet somehow life-affirming. We might be pretending to swim, but we'll be dreaming for real when Villagers land at Green Man this year.
