Toni Sancho picked up the ukulele during the pandemic, and out tumbled a series of searingly honest songs, from lockdown anthem Survive! to this year’s EP, Free Falling!. The Trinidad-born, London-based songwriter merges D’Angelo-style R&B with the theatrics of Florence and the Machine, the emotion of Frank Ocean, her own Caribbean heritage, and an exclamation mark or two.
