Once described as “the misfits’ misfits”, The Nightingales rose out of the ashes of punk outfit The Prefects in Birmingham in 1979 to become a firecracker of an outsider band: prolific music-makers, favourites of John Peel, and more recently, the subject of a Stewart Lee-penned documentary.
