Not many songwriters are deft enough to weave Nandos, heart emojis, dehumidifiers, vape shops, voluntary redundancy, and Ready Brek into their songs, but Richard Dawson’s no ordinary bard. The Tyneside musician returns to Green Man this summer off the back of his fifth album, 2020, released last year. And though his references may be contemporary, his guitar-driven folk retains plenty of tradition. Dawson locates the barbarism of earlier times in today’s capitalist world, his grand arrangements forming an inorganic pastoral portrait of modern Britain.
