Parquet Courts

A pinball machine of a band with Iggy Pop among their fans, deadpan wizards Parquet Courts bring their dose of political optimism to our parts this summer. Their decade-long string of albums, most recently 2018’s Wide Awake!, reference things like fabric softener and apply the collectivist ideals of the seventies Dutch football team to American politics, all sewn together with trademark freewheeling-yet-tight riffs. And they’re certainly not asleep, either: on Before The Water Gets Too High they ask, ‘In whose throat belongs the swan song of crisis, warming, denial, change?’
