Omar Souleyman has an impressive 500 recordings under his name, a testament to his prolific career, which began as a wedding singer. His fifth album proper, Erbil, arrives imminently, named after the Iraqi city where he currently resides. The Syrian singer has built something of a reputation on the festival circuit with his distinctive blend of dabke and techno: dabke is Arabic for “to stomp the feet”, something that is sure to happen when he takes to the stage at Green Man this year.
