Johnny Flynn and Robert Macfarlane first joined forces during the pandemic on their album Lost In The Cedar Wood, intertwining folk-tinged song with co-written lyrics. They reunite on The Moon Also Rises, a follow-up inspired by walks on the South Downs, where they move from darkness into light — taking in some wassailing and artificial intelligence along the way. It’s no surprise their companionship is so fruitful: Robert Macfarlane writes about landscape in nature in beloved books such as 2015’s Landmarks and 2019’s Underland, while Johnny Flynn keeps busy as both musician and actor. On stage, they weave magic with music and storytelling.
