X-ray your ex: it’s what all the best heartbreak albums set out to do. But Elena Tonra’s solo project is a little different. For one thing, her ex is rarely present on her 2018 eponymous solo debut. The singer – of Daughter fame – takes the acute need for catharsis that follows a break-up, and spins it with candid lyrics, dancefloor rhythms, and graceful vocals, creating a spaciousness that emulates her ex-lover’s absence. It’s rare you want to dance to songs about heartbreak, but we expect we’ll be doing just that this August.
