Taking inspiration from an eclectic mix of film scores, world music and rock, The Fifth Movement have developed a sound that often has the feel of a soundtrack with vocals. Beginning as a duo shortly after a chance meeting between singer-songwriter Kevin Critchley and composer/arranger Luke Moore, the line-up has grown to include Josie Forsey (violin/viola/backing vocals), Alex Williams (drums/percussion) and Graeme Runeckles (bass guitar).

Over the past few years they have had the pleasure of supporting James Walsh (Starsailor), Sharon Corr, Sandi Thom, Seth Lakeman, Ian McNabb, Mark Morriss (Bluetones), Mica Paris and Amsterdam. They were part of the line-up for Chester Rocks Festival 2011 and Threshold Festival 2011/12 and have since had airplay through BBC Introducing as well as a range of other radio stations. Recently they won an unsigned competition to open up on the main stage of Chester Rocks 2012.

After recording an album (Scars - 2009) and performing for some time as Kevin Critchley Outfit, they decided to rename the band before releasing new material. In October 2011, they launched their debut EP - This Brewing Storm under their new band name. Since then, we haven’t looked back!

For the larger-scale shows, they are very fortunate to be joined by special guests such as violinist/singer Greta Svabo Bech (who sang the Grammy-nominated DeadMau5 track Raise Your Weapon), violinists Mimi Pearce and Helen Lyon, plus more recently, Rachael Diop (clarinet), Marco Jones (flute) and Rosie Garner (cello). Occasional appearances on backing vocals from Norwegian duo Kaya Herstad Carney and Grethe Børsum (The Science of the Lamps) add yet more flavour to our live shows.

The Fifth Movement extends beyond just their regular and guest musicians. This includes photographer Alex Forsey, sound engineer John Pearson, filmmaker Jamie McAleny.
