The Cinedrome once again ushers in a delectable mix of modern cinema spectacles and revived cult classics for GM16. A Bigger Splash is Luca Guadagnino’s sun-splashed Italian-French thriller, starring Tilda Swinton as a mute rockstar and Ralph Fiennes as her unscrupulous ex-lover. The savage towerblock dystopia of High-Rise provides a brilliantly bleak counterbalance – based on the classic novel by J.G. Ballard, Ben Wheatley’s adaptation features violent class warfare and deliciously dark comedy. Pixar's brilliant brain-based animation Inside Out will keep the Little Folk mesmerised for a few hours.
Continuing Green Man’s tradition of unmissable live movie scoring, our screening of 1973 cult animation Fantastic Planet will be accompanied by a live soundscape performed by Asteroid Deluxe. We’re also bringing new life to Fritz Lang’s expressionist sci-fi masterpiece Metropolis with an acclaimed live piano score from Dmytro Morykit, and Aiden Moffat’s new documentary Where You’re Meant To Be comes complete with a solo set from the Arab Strap legend himself.
Then there’s Janis: Little Blue Girl, the revelatory documentary shining new light on the life of Janis Joplin; Green Room, a brilliant backwoods horror harking back to the scariest American slashers; Expresso Bongo, the scathing 1959 music industry satire and The Man Who Fell To Earth, which stars the sadly missed, completely irreplaceable David Bowie.
Talking of the great man.. If you start going square-eyed from all that big screen bliss.. Why not put on your red shoes and dance the blues with Let's Dance our Late Night David Bowie Disco. We'll see all you young dudes there!
