What exactly is there at the Green Man?

Forums:

Have heard good things about the Green Man and am thinking of going. Been checking out the website but apart from a list of music acts I couldn't find any info on what else goes on - any comedy spoken word? What are the food stalls like?  Is an 11 y old gonna find plenty to do? (thats my daughter not me)

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

4 music stages, comedy, literature, science, cinema, fairground, a million things for kids to do

an 11 year old is going to be VERY happy

and pretty much completely safe

Hi Keddi,

Thanks for getting in contact.

We are currently updating our website and are still in the process of adding all the bits and information to the new website.  Soon we will be adding all the information which describes all the specific areas around the festival site.

The Green Man Festival is a unique weekend of music hidden away among the mountains and waterfalls of the Brecon Beacons in Wales. The festival celebrates the age-old season of renewal, with bonfires, ceremony, togetherness and a stunning line-up of music, film, comedy, art and culture ranged across seven stages.

As well as a stunning line-up of music, there is also an exciting mix of performance based events such as film, literature, comedy, theatre, poetry, debates, art installations, spoken word and a wide range of activities for young people including family theatre, animation and a myriad of workshops and a massive arts, crafts and media tent where young ones can learn to DJ, be part of a film crew, turn up for some drama or puppet making lessons.

There is aso the wonderous world of Einstein's Garden, which is a haven of original thinking and imaginative ideas mixing science and nature with theatre, music, art, craft, and design.  Set across three fantastic stages nestled between the rose beds and leafy arbours at the heart of the Green Man site, it's the perfect place for kids and grown-ups of all ages to cultivate their curiosity and indulge their creative passions!

The festival also offers a holistic healing and massage area and a wide range of food stalls offering everything from Middle Eastern, French, Goan and Spanish foods with abundant vegetarian and organic options.  All ingredients are locally sourced where possible.

Whether people come for the music, the magic or the sense of escape, there's no doubt that Green Man is unlike any other festival.

Woof,

Walter

My 6 year old (who only seems to eat vegetables, carbohydrates and cheese) and my 9 year old (who would stay all weekend at the Goan curry stall if it were parked in Einstein's Garden) both love the food at Green Man.

Last year my 11 year old son got to play ukulele on stage with a hastily put together band, paint a Green Man mural, run a race with a parachute on his back, find weird creatures in the pond (supervised!), sit in a makeshift camper van and watch an image of his dad dancing around, have a Diablo throwing competition, enjoy the front row experience for the Avett Brothers on the main stage, watch a strange dubbed Russian fable in the cinema tent, have a Scalectric race powered by cycle, play a full size "hungry hippos" game, enjoy a ride on the ferris wheel . . .

Best of all he didn't feel as if he was just being tolerated in some adult world and I think that is one of the wonderful things about this festival.

The festival has a lovely atmosphere - very safe, very friendly - which is due in no small part to the type of festival-goers it attracts.

I've been to loads of different festivals over the years and seen all sorts of things, good and bad. All the festival horror stories that you might have heard (tent thefts, drunken gangs, heavy-handed security, rampant drug-use and the open sale of same, people pissing on each other''s tents in the night etc. etc.) don't apply at Green Man. I've been coming to Green Man since 2006 and the worst thing that's ever happened to me was being scrutinised by a slightly over-zealous security bloke who mistook my cigarette for something else. He was a bit abrupt but not aggressive. Being realistic, that sort of thing is bound to happen and it didn't spoil anything really.

I've got nothing but nice things to say about Green Man.

Last year I lost my mobile phone at the top of the hill in front of the main stage following Iron and Wine's closing set. After gettinga bit grumpy and then going off to the fireworks with my daughter I got back to the tent to find that the lovely people on the ice cream stand had phoned my wife to tell her the phone had been handed in and they'd look after it until the morning. That's so Green Man.

Kras, I found a mobile phone a couple of years ago and traced the owner.  It was her first time at GM and she was stunned when I gave it her back, what did she expect? it's the greenman.  mind you she did buy me a pint as a thankyou :)
