Family camping

Forums:

Good morning. I have worked as a medic at the festival twice before but this year i am taking my girlfriend  and our 3 kids aged 11,12 and 13 to it. Can you please tell me what the family camping is like , is there much space in the camping area and what is there for them to do rather than watching me dancing!!!! Thanks for your help. Roll on August!

Surely three kids of those ages would happily spend all weekend watching their dad dance? Plenty of space if you get there on Thursday, can't be too picky if you fetch up on Friday. Our kids are 8 and 6 and this will be our 6th Green Man - they love the kids' area but I guess if they're a bit older  they might find that a bit uncool. Try Einstein's Garden - loads of stuff going on there!

That's dedication, but the box office doesn't open until 10am on the Thursday so I don't know that there's much point getting there at 7am! You might not even get let into the car park if you get there that early!

Honestly, I've always arrived around 11am and there's no queue (or at least, no more than a handful of people waiting) and the campsite is still very empty for you to get a good spot. They don't open the site until 10 so I really wouldn't get there too early, I'm not sure the stewards will even be at the gates to let you in at that time!

A couple of years ago we got there nice and early on a Thursday morning then had to wait for an hour at the entrance while they messed around tring to knock a couple of metal posts in.  Anyway we set the tent up in plenty of space near some trees, had a bit of a late night and went to bed worse the wear for the drink.  Woke up the following morning/afternoon and the place was crammed with tents just put anywhere.  Brilliant.

Are you coming for the week before on the Holiday ticket or just from the Thursday, if early there is always plenty of kids about, football on the go always, loads for them to do, my 2 little ones have a ball, they are almost disapointed when the festival starts as the football and games with all there new (and some old) friends stops. I'd love to be a kid at GM.
