Erm three bands -iron +wine ,oh ruin and the low anthem playing green man who played last years end of the road, the first two playing green man well before the end of the road. This years end of the road festival shares much more of a similarity to lasts years green man.I don't know if you want to green man bash, then at least have your stats correct, all that addlestones must have gone to your head. The staff last year,as all years were spot on.
no my stats are right ,band like sunburnt hand of man are no longer on the bill , and yes drinking lots of addlestons dose go to my head .....explotions in the sky played end of the road last year x
i have nothing against last years staff ,just the old staff come from as far back as the old sites and me and my friends had got to know them over the years .
Man I totally agree about the cider issue, was gonna post myself on the matter, Aspel's is a sickly, sub-standard substitute for Addlestones, plus surely the latter is cheaper to supply?
This was an problem last year I think, there was basically 3 draught options:
1) green man ale - ultimately ale (as much as I love it generally) isn't a nice refreshing festival drink, and besides this particular example is average at best (get in a decent IPA)
2) Tuborg lager - utterly bland, tasteless lager, at least get Amstel (i'm sure they served this a few years ago?) or something with an iota of flavour, better still some decent Pilsner
3) Aspels - sorry but for any cider lover this stuff is simply intolerable, it's sickeningly sweet and utterly undrinkable in anything except tiny quanitities. And to replace Addlestones which is absolute nectar is a sacrilege
Let's face it there needs to be a decent selection of drinks available if we're not allowed to take booze into the stage areas (which is a bit churlish in my opinion)
Furthermore the line-up is shit this year (I'm still going cos I love this festival, holding out for some decent late night names) so people are gonna be more dependent on the little things. Praying for some decent weather for once as well, at least hope it's not pissing down when erecting and taking down tent, which I swear is the case every year!!
As for the bar staff they seem lovely every year so no complaints really on this front. See y'll there!
'they'd have a hard time getting their license from the local police and council if folks could bring booze in'.... No problem at Glastonbury, can take your own drinks anywhere. No licencing issue there.
'letting people bring it into the camp site is pretty rare at a festival these days'... even the most commercial festival of all, 'V', allows this.
With the credit crunch, the increasing number of festivals, and applications to increase capacity at festivals (IOW and GM), the festival bubble will lburst, probably sooner than later. So orgnaisers who 'bite the hand that feeds them' by serving crap drinks at inflated prices, and barring bring you own, should take note.
There has been a marked drop in attendance at concerts in the last 18 months - big bands playing half empty venues - even take that tickets are stuggling to fetch face value.
There is no excuse for crap drinks and lack of variety - and it don't fit then GM ethos either
I do alot of festivals each year and have never been to one which does not allow drinks to be taken into the campsite--most do not allow into the arenas including green man but green man does not police this to any great degree.
The wicked wasp cider was excellent last year and all the ciders from the same wrexham farm were superb--but very strong.
There is a definate downturn on festivals this year--alot which sell out quickly still have tickets available and many have already been cancelled this year.Green man is probably in a stronger position with its loyal following and is less reliant on headliners.

yup - the staff have always
yup - the staff have always been lovely
including all the unpaid stewards
poor buggers standing there in the pissing rain dealing with the alcoholically, herbally and chemically challenged masses of us
and always with a big smile
worth making GM your festival of choice for that alone

the no booze on site thing
the no booze on site thing isn't churlish - it's a licensing issue
they'd have a hard time getting their license from the local police and council if folks could bring booze in
letting people bring it into the camp site is pretty rare at a festival these days - so be thankful
also, it's kind of more that they say so than that they fiercely enforce it...
right?
i do happily remember the glastonburys of the late 80s and early 90s when you could bring anything on site
and buy anything too
there was even a nice area where all the dealers set up shop!
but, as bob dylan says, things have changed...
