the staves
Would love to see the staves @ GM.
I've just searched Alabama Shakes on youtube. Hmmm. Not really my cup of tea, but fair enough if others like 'em.
They sho' ain't shakin' me.
They sho' ain't shakin' me. Each to his/her own eh?
Solid.
Solid.
I like what I've heard of The Alabama Shakes.
Not getting the Commitments refererence though.
But I do detect a (pleasant) hint of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
And what's not to like in a band with a singer with a big voice like that and a beat up SG and a musicological reference to the great Jug Band The Mississippi Shieks.
Not a Uke in sight, nor a flute or a cardigan.
It is possible to have too much twee in one's life.
Saw the Staves again last
Saw the Staves again last night at the Kazimier in Liverpool - absolutely stunning. They silenced the crowd just as they did when they played the K supporting Michael Kiwanuka in February. I must say they have a good line in onstage banter in addition to having beautiful voices and songs. They're on tour at the moment so if they're appearing anywhere near you I heartily recommend going to see them.
C'mon Green fella - book 'em - they'd go down a storm I'm sure.

Went to see other lives a couple of weeks ago, they were supported by The Magnetic North--two from Erland and the carnival with Hannah Peel, they had such a rich sound and it was good to see a band enjoying playing.
Going tomorrow to see The Dandy Warhols,i know that will get me disapproving looks, but there one of my guilty pleasures and put on a tremendous live show, and none of this one hour show rubbish which seems the trend now.
The Erland-Hannah Peel thing
The Erland-Hannah Peel thing seems an obvious Green Man addition doesn't it?

Spoke to erland Cooper afterwards who said they are working on a new Erland and the Carnival album but Latitude was the only confirmed festival so far.

I agree about Erland and the
I agree about Erland and the Carnival, saw them at Standon Calling a couple of years ago and they were really great. I have asked for this before too but we were blown away by Devendra Banhart when we saw him after giving up on a dreadful performance by Dylan at Hop Farm the year before last. He was so entertaining, such a great live performance; bit folky, bit poppy, certainly wacky! Get him over here please....Green Man bur E and t Carnival has to be a great and easy booking sureley?

E&TC have been at two of the last 3 GMs so maybe not so likely, better chance of the collaboration with Hannah Peel I'd have thought. Haven't heard much from Devandra recently but was quite disaappointed with him back at GM 2007 (I think or was it 2008?) when he invited a random woman onto the stage to perform - Beth Jeans Houghton's first break.

Some more announcements promised next week.
Hopefully no more of this psychedelic nonsense - I mean it's not as if anyone ever asked for it!
There's quite enough folk too ... and just the right amount of tweeness.
We need more bands that can make some noise.

You mean people may be kept awake and have their weekend wrecked? I hope not.

Well at least Dylan, to my
Well at least Dylan, to my knowledge doesn't treat audiences with contempt ... something that Van Morrison is well capable of ... although I don't think he will at GM.
I hope we get the rest of the line up this week. Wating is not building any excitement ... just boredom. It's probably because it's been so good so far.
We need something to engender debate and argument ... like Doves !

they are going to kill at green man
would be perfect on the pub stage in that slot that first aid kit had in 2010
i've been listening to the records - which are growers - but the songs are much more powerful live
boy, those girls can sing...
Agreed.
Agreed.
They're perfect for GM. And they're fantastic live.
(BTW Ray - The belief that sentences should not begin with the word 'and' is mistaken. And that's all there is to it. Bill Bryson told me so.)
good banter too

camilla managed a "fuck off!" after the first song
which obviously endeared me to them big time
(i'm all for beginning a sentence with 'and', btw - as long as one knows why one's doing it. and can handle the ensuing opprobrium)

I saw The Staves in Cardiff last year and really looking forward to their GM set.
Hasn't there been some regulation enacted that requires all sentences to begin with 'so'? I assumed that we were being rebellious here and ignoring it, as most other forums appear to be compliant.
