GM 2012 my thoughts...

Forums:

Hiya everybody

Just wanted to give my reaction to one of the other posts that popped up today about our beloved Greenman not wanting it's old audience to return to the festival. Personally I think it nonsence and was shocked to read this to be honest. It appears to be business as usual to me... This year's line up is easily the best it's been for years and is certainly catering for my Greenman inclined taste buds : )

Going through the line up... Feist will be a wonderful headliner, I couldn't get along to her recent dates but friends and reviews told me that it was amazing. I could burst with  excitement from this alone- totally suited to greenman. I think it very thoughtful to have some old favourites returning like Stephen Malkmus, Damien Jurado, Beth Jeans Houghton, Bowerbirds, Junior Boys, Michael Kiwanuka etc etc etc. They are all wonderful artists that i am very much looking forward to seeing. YES I was hoping beautiful Bon Iver would be playing but i'm sure greenman tried. I imagine that latitude paid an awful lot of money to have him play as an exclusive there (i'm going).

Then there are new ones too like tune-yards- How could you not be looking forward to seeing them!? Very exciting band indeed- I have seen them and they are amazing live. : ) Jonathan Richman!! JONATHAN RICHMAN!!!! Do not need to say any more. The Time And Space machine will be cool too. I was working in a bar when Amourphous Androginous played a couple of years ago, so am gonna make sur e i see this. Then Daughter, The Walkmen, King Creosote And Jon Hopkins (how amazing is this gonna be!), Cass McCombs, Yann Tiersen, Field Music!!!!!!!!!! On what planet are Greenman not trying to appeal to it's original audience with this line up?? And for Van The Man, he fits perfectly. We've had legends such as Donovan, Robbie Plant and Jarvis Cocker in the past. Van Morrison with Sugar Loaf Mountain behind will be a moment, that's for sure and if he's not your cup of tea, there will be loads more to see elsewhere. Something I love about music is personally taste- I could love something that you might not like or the other way round. This intrigues me no end.

Here's my must see bands from the Greenman12 lineup

Stephen malkmus, King Creosote and Jon Hopkins, FEIST, Trembling Bells, Bowerbirds, Tune-Yards, cw stoneking,Daughter, Beth Jeans Houghton, Of Montreal, Joe Pug and Van Morrison...... Yes, i am a very happy bunny so thank you Greenman : ) : )

I Can't wait! : )

Looks an interesting line-up to me. I've never seen any of the bands listed so far (unless you count Malkmus when he was in Pavement) and not heard music by most of them until they got added to the line-up.

Some I'll be avoiding. I've tried to like Feist, I really have, but after a few plays of all 3 albums it still sounds like the soundtrack to a dinner party to me. The way she sings now irritates the hell out of me. Picked up the first Walkmen CD in a charity shop and thought they were passable for a few songs but mostly just a poor copy of Idlewild.

Over all though I'm quietly excited. Even looking forward to Van Van the Grumpy Man.

Spot on lucy,i couldn't have said it better, you should add peaking lights to your must see's-tripped out bliss,i think you would enjoy them.

Swatting up on Peaking Lights now- Sound great so far little otter...

................ Don't know how i forgot BUG with Adam Buxton too : )

Seriously though, glad you all agree with what I wrote AND I REALLY, REALLY CAN'T WAIT!! : )
