you are right GAster - it is a serious faux pas to wear the t shirt of the band you are actually seeing. I would extend that to wearing a t shirt at a festival of any band playing at that festival. Even if it's on a different day.
This year I wore: Smog, Sufjan, Little Wings and Butthole Surfers. Though i'm sure no-one other than sad old men (like me) even noticed. i.e no ladies.
I also consider it a cardinal sin to have your copy of the Good Beer Guide in your hand or on the table when drinking in a Real Ale pub - but that's another matter.
The only one I saw this year was a dude wearing a Villagers t-shirt, I think. I saw at least three people on the same day all wearing Teenage Fanclub shirts which was interesting! Saw loads of people wearing the Green Man shirts, though!
GOOD GOD..I HATE WORKING.Just done 5 days in a row..got another 2, (well 1 and a half) to go and all I can think of is sun, mountains, music, beer.
Spotted a wristband on the tram this morning and spent a lovely 10 minutes talking to a total stranger about what a lovely time we'd had.
Anyway..'Treefight for Sunlight' on Tuesday..looking forward to that. Missed them at GM, someone round here said he thought they were okay. Can't remember who...bearded chap..glasses..
Ah, that was epic.
We were leaving main stage for Lia Ices at that time. But then suddenly Treefight for Sunlight started this cover and we had to stop our walk and enjoy it. And then, in saturday night, Feeling Gloomy DJs played Kate Bush again...Great memories.
.......To be honest I always found Ms. Bush's 'Wuthering Heights' pretty execrable too. I think it may be so terminally crap as to be unredemable. I imagine whichever Bronte sister it was that created the original book spinning in her grave, desperately cramming ectoplasmic ear plugs in her lugs, and cursing Dave Gilmour.
Well. I really enjoyed them. I thought their harmonies were pretty amazing. The Castle Hotel is not the biggest music venue in this fair city, intimate, is best used to describe it. However it is a lovely space and they went down well. They came across like a really nice bunch of blokes. Whilst on stage they all drank from their cans of Fosters, they had obviously bought themselves, which was quite endearing. At the end of the gig, they asked people to hang round and have a beer with them. Plus they were selling their album from a box on the stage. I bought a copy, which they all signed. chatted with the drummer, about Green Man. He said it was their favourite gig of the year and he hopes they get asked back next year because they would probably stay for the whole weekend.
We had a great evening...you can breathe easy Krasyni...
Did I not mention I was their UK agent? Glad you enjoyed it sb, those harmonies are pretty amazing aren't they. I was listening to the album on the way to work this morning and sat in the carpark for ages listening - mind you that's partiallly 'cos i can't be arsed with work. Cyfarthfa, peridot and mr ray will surely come round eventually . . . .
Cyfarthfa - got another Malcolm Pryce at the weekend! I'm adddicted.
I just re-read this whole thread (Module Review work avoidance) and I must say it's quite funny. We could always work it up into a multi-media extravaganza involving music from TFS. It would enliven the cinema tent of a thursday nignt anyhow.
Books- Been rereading classic SF- Alfred Bester; Lem; Walter M Miller; Keith Roberts and Strugatsky Bro's 'Roadside Picnic'- the basis for Tarkovski's 'the Stalker' which i thought was brilliant. Been trying to find if any more by them has been translated into english.
That's the level of taste and class that I'd expect from TFS!
Anyone liking sweet vocal harmonies would do well to check out The Staves. I saw them supporting Willy Mason in Cardiff last night and rather liked them.
The gig was full of GM refugees desperate for a musical pick-me-up.
Both the Staves and Willy Mason were at the Mofo (sorry, Moseley Folk Festival) at the weekend but i didn't hear much of them because of all the YACKING.
Oh, peridot, I see what you did there. Each to their own though, eh?
Glad to hear you enjoyed the gig, scousebaby. They sound like lovely chaps! I saw them around GM after their set happily chatting to lots of people and they seem like a friendly lot.
Funnily enough Mrs Cyfarthfa is just reliving her student days by watching Old grey whistle test on BBC4 and looking at Borth on Google earth.. I feel a trip to Borth coming on.
Shame about the Bleedin Noses - was looking forward to catching them again soon.
Went for a curry in Cardiff tonight and picked up one of those listing mags while waiting for our table. It unhelpfully informed me that Under The Driftwood Tree were playing just down the road. I'd have gladly emptied the bowl of Bombay Mix into my pocket for later sustenance and high tailed it out of there, but I knew that Mrs Peridot had her mind set on a king prawn sag and was not for turning.
I'll have to keep up with events a bit better.
I'm watching the great John Martyn on the Whistle Test night at the moment and the equally great Rory Gallagher coming up. Why can't the BBC spend a bit of the licence fee on a decent music programme like the Whistle Test any more?
I have never understood why the BBC persist with Jools Holland. Neither can I understand why we can't have something like OGWT - not like it would be a big budget or anything.
I've never understood the point of Jools Holland. The OGWT footage revealed him to be a pillock back in the '70s and age has only made him an even greater pillock.
The programming on 'Later' is clearly largely dictated by the record companies too.
