I agree with you Parkes. Want to dance until 6am... Go to Gatecrasher or some other ubiquitous night-out offered all year round in most major cities.
I don't think conflating this debate with 'family groups' versus 'young' is particularly relevant - I don't have a family, just reckon that something around 12am/1am is about right to turn off the 8 foot speakers and let the site recover for the next day.
Compromise - one night only, say the Saturday, for the music to go on to the small hours?
i dont mind the music going on and on to be honest, we are at a bloody festival. just depends on what kind of tunes i guess.b that constant thud thud gets annoying after 2 hours, some variation and we are all happy campers.
if by posting this i can help krasnyi fulfill his mission statement then i feel all the better for it..for this is the home stretch, people will be there already. the lucky wet lot.
i'm waiting on my motorcycle coming out of surgery and as such travel plans may be subject to change without prior notification and without compensation. fuck its tense! best go look on the liftshare thread just in case...
Plan for today: clean gerbils out, clean fridge, do the ironing, assist child 2 with spud gun target practice. try to get kids to tidy up . . . . . oh and pack for Green Man!
Misread that at first, thought you were searching for bongos! Bungs?
Sheds to the forefront again!
Cyfarthfa - my niece is thinking of accepting a place at Cardiff Uni - Cardiff's a pretty cool, happening place these days isn't it? Certainly seems to have a healthy music scene.
Forecast now turning worse for tomorrow again ??? Oh, sod it anyway, I'm prepared for any eventuality.
Not sure about the healty music scene in Cardiff. We seem to be losing every small to medium sized venue there is. The Point, Millenium Music Hall, and now The Globe :-(
Is anyone still around or have you all departed for GM?
I have one more day of work to get through and will then be travelling direct to site once I'm done. Even though it's raining heavily where I am - about 20 miles from the site - I'm pretty confident it's blazing sunshine there.
Re: Cardiff. I live there and can confirm it's a very nice city. Big enough to have all the things cities have but small enough to make everything easy to get to.
There is a music scene and it's not bad but it's not great either. As Peridot says the dwindling number of small venues hasn't helped - although MMH should have closed a long time before it did as it was the worst venue I've ever been to. There's a lot going in Bristol though which is only 40mins away.
On a slightly related pointed - does it have to be at festivals that the only thing on late are DJ's? There's often no other options and at Green Man there was only some poor comedy and cinema. That's one of my few gripes. Lovely festival though :)
More acts at say the Pub stage, instead of them competing with Chai Wallahs and Far Out for DJs. Maybe unsigned acts or some acts doing special second sets.
Maybe I'm just no fun but I don't really like a disco or three and I didn't take a load of fun out of getting drunk and watching experimental cinema (although it made more sense).
I haven't posted or even lurked here in weeks - busy with dreary DIY stuff - so I didn't keep up to date or make the meet-up. I checked the site a day or two before leaving, found out about the ANDWMW T-Shirt and realised I was too late to get one and so thought, "I know I'll just dish out some CDs to anyone wearing one instead" on a whim.
To be honest, I felt a bit self conscious handing them out, rather like how I imagine a shy Jehovah's Witness must feel about going door to door. I handed out ten to chaps (all chaps) wearing the T-Shirt and just left the rest on tables etc. for people to chance upon. Krasnyi was the only person to strike up any conversation with me, so I don't know exactly who got the rest but if you did then I hope you enjoy it.
I'll talk to anyone, me. Nice to meet you GAster, see you next year.
Feeling rather down this morning - nowt worse than waking up (albeit in a comfortable bed and having greatly benefitted from a bath) and realising you are not at the Green Man Festival.
We feel the same. It was a complete blast with very little to moan about...feeling a bit flat and sentimental..lots of pics and vids being posted on Facebook, making it worse.
Was great to meet everyone on Thursday night, and even better to bump into people throughout the weekend.
...Oh yes, an all night disco, very nearly wrecked my weekend. I was so hammered on Friday, went to Pub for Cover to Cover, and Far Out for Horse Meat Disco. Therefore was a little bit poorly on Saturday, only managing to leave tent during the day to forage for food.I did manage to make it in the the festival site for about 6,but I had to take it very easy. You'll al be releived to know that I clawed it back on Sunday.
I found one of those CDs, well rather my friend did and gave it to me. I haven't given it a listen yet but I definitely will.
I met some really cool people thanks to the T-shirt and hope to see you all again next year.
Had a bit of a weird t-shirt moment on Friday. A girl fell and broke her ankle on the hill right next to us (I can still hear the sound). She was obviously very keen to have her boyfriend comfort her and when we couldn't get him on the phone she said that he was with someone wearing an ANDWMW shirt. Me and my mates scattered and probably spoke to everyone in a green t-shirt on the site in about 5 mins. Everyone except the guy we wanted to find who in the meantime answered his phone and came to the rescue.
If that was your friend then I hope she is feeling better. If I spoke to you in a very panicky manner on Friday afternoon and demanded to know if you had a friend in a flowery dress hopefully this explains that I'm not mental.
I'm sure one of the comedians was wearing a ANDWMW Tshirt on stage. His name is Dan Mitchell and he's in the final of Show Me The Funny on ITV1. Lets hope he wears the tshirt on national tv.
GAster - I found one of your CDs at the Welsh food place, many thanks - its great and a lovely surprise to find it. Coincidentally I also have an ANDWMW T-shirt
That was me! It was our friend Beth who broke her ankle. She's recovering at home now after a few nights in the local hospital. You came over and I had no idea what you were telling me...I might have been drunk etc.It wasn't until you walked away that the penny dropped. Cheers for making the effort to come and find us.
Did anyone see a single t-shirt of a band that were actually playing at Greenman? I was idling away my time when wandering around by trying to count the different bands on t-shirts and AC/DC topped the list with all sorts of other rock legends popping up all over the place. Maybe Greenman bands just dont indulge in t-shirt selling.
I wore an Erland and the Carnival t-shirt one day (they've played GM twice in the past and hopefully will be back next year 'cos they're mighty fab!) and a Voluntary Butler Scheme t-shirt another day (please book VBS for 2012!)
Interesting point LM - where were all the band shirts for bands who were actually playing?
In addition to AC / DC and Pink Floyd, I spotted two Iron Maiden T-Shirts F.F.S.!
Ok, I was wearing a Rush T-Shirt but it wasn't ironic - I saw them in concert about a month ago and I'm still proudly sporting the T-Shirt (I'm not a soap-dodger - it has been washed frequently).
Furthermore, where are all the GM T-Shirts? The competition winner sold out, but I didn't notice anyone wearing it. What's THAT all about?
Many moons ago when I was a young 'un I remember that it wasn't considered cool to wear the T-Shirt of the band you were going to see. Inspiral Carpets tonight? Right, put on your Charlatans T-shirt! Stone Roses at Spike Island? There's only one thing to wear - a Happy Mondays T-shirt! Can this still be the case?
in my day everyone wore scoop neck things with stars on. then overnight it changed to that gay cowboys one or torn black plain ones. I don't think i've ever possesed a band t shirt. mine are mostly stupid ones or ones I get given. I had a cool technicolor one once, well I thought it was cool.
I didn't get anywhere near a disco again this year, all night or otherwise. Will try and get to a disco next year maybe. If it's quiet.
Ooops, sorry.
