Owen Williams and George Nicholls — of now-dispersed cult Welsh noise pop outfit Joana Gruesome — have taken a janglier path with their new band. The Tubs sound like a long-lost 1980s college group, all Marr-like guitar lines, bright, zipping melody, and lyrics of fear and self-loathing. Debut album Dead Meet, out last year, merges Antipodean pop with contemporary post-punk, with gleeful consequences.
